Social Work
Students planning a career in social work will learn to identify problems affecting individuals and their environment, become more aware and sensitive to issues of race, ethnicity, religion and gender and use their knowledge, skills and values to enhance the quality and delivery of services in the community. Social workers help people solve and cope with problems in their everyday lives. One group of social workers, clinical social workers, also diagnose and treat mental, behavioral and emotional issues.

To prepare to become a social worker, students obtain either a bachelor’s or master’s degree. Students need to investigate the programs at their intended transfer institution to be sure they offer the desired program. All social work programs are competitive.
Job Opportunities
Social workers may work in clinical settings, work with children and families, social or healthcare settings.

Median wages for social workers is $44,200.
Career Outlook
Employment of social workers is expected to grow 19 percent through 2022. Growth will vary by specialty.
